Burkit Wins Cazenovia College 5K to pace Bobcats XC to a 3rd Place finish

Wesley Burkit and Olivia Skylstad battled for the lead for much of the 5K, with Burkit pulling away with about a mile to go to win by a dozen seconds.

Event summary:  Wesley Burkit won the first collegiate cross country event of his career, winning the women's 5K at Cazenovia College's 12th annual Cross Country Invitational at Fenner Field.  Burkit's winning time of 22:03.9 was 12 seconds ahead of second place finisher, Olivia Skylstad of Hudson Valley CC.  Ellen Haas placed seventh overall for the Bobcats in 23:13.6, while Melody Ascioti placed 20th in 26:22.  Reese Covington finished in 25th and Ellie Judice in 26th to round out the scoring for the Bobcats.  There were 32 women who finished the 5K.

 

Hartwick College won' the women's team event with 42 points, followed by Hudson Valley CC with 45 points and the Bobcats placed third with 52 points.  SUNY Poly placed fourth with 75 points.  Other schools participating in the women's 5K included SUNY Canton, Morrisville State, Cazenovia College and Herkimer County CC.

 

Men's 8K Results:  Ryan Chiari was the top Bobcat finisher, covering the 8K course in 32:18.8, in 19th place.  Zack Sprott – Scribner was the second PSC finisher, placing 31st with a time of 34:27.7.  Dermot O'Connor and Nate Shader placed 35th and 39th respectively with times of 35:06 and 35:51.

 

Carson Wohlers rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats with a time of 36:33.6 to place 45th.  Sixty six runners competed in the Men's 8K.  Morrisville State won the men's team event with 40 points, followed closed by SUNY Poly with 42 points.  Hudson Valley placed third with 88 points, and Herkimer County CC was fourth with 94.  Paul Smith's placed fifth with 129 and SUNY Canton was sixth with 151 points.  Other colleges that took part in the men's 8K included Mohawk Valley CC, Hartwick College and Clinton CC.

 

The Bobcats will be competing in the Cross Country Only Championships in Geneva, NY on October 15th.
