Gilmore Joins Athletics Dept. Staff as Head Coach for Women's Hockey
Paul Smiths, NY ~ A familiar face and recent alumnus of the college has been seen around campus this week. Gibson Gilmore, a former men's hockey captain and 2021 graduate of Paul Smith's College, has been tapped to take over the women's hockey program, trading his time on the the ice for a tenure behind the bench for the Bobcats.
Gilmore has enjoyed a fruitful playing career within the sport of hockey, having played his whole life. During his time as a member of the men's hockey team at Paul Smith's College he received multiple accolades. In 2019 he was named Rookie of the Year, and in 2021, his final season as a Bobcat where he was also captain, he received the first-ever PSC Hockey Coaches Award. He showed prowess in the classroom as well, earning the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National All-Academic Award twice.
Paul Smith's College Athletic Director Zack Luzzi had the folllowing to say about the newest member of his athletic department. "We're excited about Gibson being back on campus. He was a positive figure in the building of the men's program as a student athlete and we're incredibly excited to watch him take charge and help our women's hockey program."
Gilmore comes to the college at a time where the team has seen recent success, having made it to the Independent Women's Club Hockey League (IWCHL) Adirondack Division Final Four for the first time in program history. "To be back at my alma mater feels right," said Gilmore. "I believe in what we have here at Paul Smith's College. This program is special to anyone who played here and I'm thrilled to continue that tradition," he added.
