Jacobson Dominates in Win on Senior Day
Paul Smiths, NY ~ It was all PSC on Sunday as the Bobcats dominated the the visiting NHTI Lynx 96-56 at home on Senior Day. Finnley Jacobson (Vergennes, VT) shot a remarkable 72% from the field as Paul Smith's College grabbed an important Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory against NHTI.
Dominating the paint, Jacobson finished with a game-high 27 points while adding six rebounds and one assist. Junior guard Holly Bagley (Bloomfield, NY) wasn't far behind as she contributed 24 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and six steals. Head Coach Brad Rideout was impressed by the ball movement the team exhibited throughout the match.
"With both Finnley and Holly's it scoring, one from inside and the other from ouside, our ball movement offensively was a major key to the victory," said Rideout.
Seniors Alli Cherry (Grasonville, MD) and Hayleigh Gates (West Winfield, NY) were honored before the game and contributed at both ends of the court. Cherry scored three points and added seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals while Gates scored six and dished out a game-leading 11 assists while contributing eight rebounds and two blocks.
"That was the most fun we've had together in a game this season," said Gates.
Gates will be graduating in December and wanted to celebrate her senior game in the traditional way, at the end of the season. "It meant a lot to be able to have such an entertaining game in front of my family and friends from home. I had no idea so many of them were coming, so to win in that fashion meant the world. Besides my family, I'd like to thank all of my friends, coaches, supporters, and Smitty Nation who have supported me and my team along the way!" she added.
Jillian York (Largo, FL) added 14 points and was a rebound away from the double-double, finishing with nine boards. Jordan Louis (Crystal, NM), Abbey Bateman (Edmeston, NY), and Delaney Curley (Montrose, PA) rounded out the scoring with eight, seven, and seven points, respectively. The team looked like a well-oiled machine and have found their spark at the right time heading into the second half of the season.
"I was excited that we could get the seniors a win on their special day," said Rideout. "We as a coaching staff enjoy coaching both Hayleigh and Alli everyday - they both work hard to get better and it shows on the court," he added.
