Women's Basketball Finishes Regular Season on High Note, Enters Playoffs Hungry for More
Paul Smiths, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College Lady Bobcats rode familiar coat tails to a 66-39 conference victory over Vermont Tech on Thursday night in their last regular season game of the year. With the win the Lady Bobcats clinched fourth place in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) and will host a first-round playoff game.
"A total team effort," said women's basketball coach Brad Rideout. "Offensively it was no doubt our best game where we shared the ball on our offensive court possessions, and defensively we followed the game plan to a tee."
Jayla Gray (Smithfield, VA) played a nearly perfect game, earning her 10th double-double of the season. Gray finished with 26 points on 12/14 shooting and snatched 17 rebounds. Hayleigh Gates (West Winfield, NY) earned her fourth double-double of the season dropping in 14 points and collecting 17 boards. Gates also led the team in helpers, dishing out five assists on the game. Brooke D'Amato (Waterbury, CT) gave a spark as a reserve, draining three 3s and finishing with 11 points while grabbing six rebounds.
The Paul Smith's College Women's Basketball team finishes the regular season with a 13-10 overall record. The Lady Bobcats will start the postseason with a home game on Saturday against the NHTI Lynx in the Saunders Gymnasium.
"Excited to have a first-round home playoff game. With the effort and committment the girls put forth this season - they deserve that. Everybody starts 0-0 and anything can happen on any given day. We're gonna take it one game at a time," added Rideout.
