Women's Basketball Signs Another Recruit!
Paul Smiths, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College women's basketball team signed another recruit over the weekend.
Delaney Curley is a point guard from Montrose, PA who plays basketball at Elk Lake Jr.-Sr. High School. A starter in each of her four years and a career average 8 ppg scorer, Delaney has the capability to be an explosive scorer, evidenced by a 24 point effort early this season. Delaney is at her best directing the game from the point guard position and creating scoring opportunities for her teammates.
Bobcats head coach Brad Rideout is excited about having someone like Delaney play for him. "On the court she brings a basketball IQ that is exciting to bare witness to," said Rideout. "Delaney is a hard worker and never backs down from a challenge. I only had to watch her play in summer league a few seconds before I knew she has special abilities to her game."
Her high school coach, Kevin Tewksbury, commented on Delaney's abilities on the court, stating that "Delaney has been a natural leader since the day she stepped on the court as a freshman. Her Basketball IQ is unmatched by any player that I have ever coached in 22 years. Coaching Delaney has always been a pleasure because of her work ethic on and off the court, her time she has put in the gym and classroom separates her from others."
Delaney's coach from her senoir year echoed those sentiments "The first thing I noticed was her knowledge of the game," said Elk Lake High School Coach Megan Casselbury. "She has the 'whatever you need me to do, I'll do' mentality and that speaks volumes to me. I wish her the best of luck the next four years at Paul Smith's College," added Casselbury.
Not only is she a talented player on the court, but a fantastic student in the classroom. Delaney has an impressive 4.0 gpa on the Dean's List and she's ranked 2nd in her class. She's also Vice President of the National Honor Society at her school and Vice President of her senior class. She'll be majoring in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences when she joins PSC in the fall.
When asked about why Delaney chose PSC, she spoke about the unique learning environment that has been cultivated here. "What draws me to Paul Smiths is the unique, hands-on experience in studying the outdoors," she said. "Having access to an academic and recreational resource like the Adirondack Park sets Paul Smith's College aside from other schools, and I'm looking forward to joining a community that finds value in the outdoors and studying our natural resources and wildlife."
She also spoke about the women's basketball program and the recruiting process of the father-daughter coaching tandem. "The opportunity to play the sport that I love at the next level is so exciting, and I've found a supportive and welcoming program here at Paul Smith's College. It has been Head Coach Brad Rideout and Assistant Mercedes Rideout's hospitality, encouragement, and confidence in my abilities as a player that have made the decision to become a Bobcat an easy one."
