Paul Smith's College Hosts 2022 Empire State Games Snowshoeing ~ PSC Students earn 31 Medals on the Day

Fifteen members of the Paul Smith’s College Snowshoe Team took part in the Empire State Winter Games Snowshoeing events held both at the College’s soccer field as well as at the College’s VIC.  The students combined to win 31 medals over the four events held in the 800, 100 and 400 meters in the morning as well as the 5K in the afternoon.  Over a foot of fresh powder added to the challenges presented by racing in single digit temperatures with a delightful bluebird sky.

Race Summary:  Fifteen members of the Paul Smith's College Snowshoe Team took part in the Empire State Winter Games Snowshoeing events held both at the College's soccer field as well as at the College's VIC.  The students combined to win 31 medals over the four events held in the 800, 100 and 400 meters in the morning as well as the 5K in the afternoon.  Over a foot of fresh powder added to the challenges presented by racing in single digit temperatures with a delightful bluebird sky. 

Carson Wohlers paced the Bobcats with four gold medals in the 15 – 19 age category, while Samantha Severing won the 800, 100 and 400 meters for the women in the same age bracket.  Severing had the fastest 100 meter time for the women finishing in 20.03

Wohlers had the fastest 800 meter time of the day, winning the event in 4:11, followed a second behind by teammate Zachary Sprott – Scribner who won the gold in the 20 – 34 age bracket.  

Kelly McDonald (Sacketts Harbor, NY) paced the women in the 800 meters with a time of 4:34 as well as the 400 meters in 2:10 to win two golds in the age 20 – 34 category.  Kathleen Judice (Dayton, ME) won the age 50 – 64 category in all four distances.  

Alex Cameron of Paul Smith's College topped the men's field in the 400 meters with a time of 1:49, followed closely by fellow PSC student, Sam Finger, also in the 20 – 34 age category in 1:53 for the silver medal.  

Ellen Haas of Paul Smith's College won the 15 – 19 age class in the 5K with a time of 36:32, followed by teammates Severing in 44:08 and Ellie Judice in 45:40.  Matt Medeiros (Saranac, NY) paced the men's 8K with a time of 25:13 to win the 35 – 49 category, followed by Sprott-Scribner in 28:17.  Locally, Dan Edelstein (Saranac Lake, NY) won both the 5K and the 400 meters for the 50 – 64 age group, while placing second in the 800 and 100 meters respectively.  

Quinn Jordan, (Brooklyn, NY ~ PSC graduate) blistered the field in the men's 100 meters with a time of 18.72.  Maddie Pfeiffer (Saranac Lake, NY) had the top women's time in the 5K, winning in 29:28 to win the 20 – 34 class, while Andrea Hudak (Lake Placid, NY) finished in 36:00 to win the 35 – 49 age class.
