PSC Biathletes Heading to IBU World Jr. Championships
Shchuchinski, Kazakhstan ~ Two Paul Smith's College Biathletes are heading to the International Biathlon Union (IBU) World Jr. Championships in early March to compete for US Biathlon. Dolcie Tanguay (Fort Kent, ME) and Nathan Livingood (Falmouth, ME) will be representing the US in this prestigious event. Both Bobcats earned their spot on the team at the US Trials in Anchorage, Alaska in December.
Tanguay has been with the US Jr. team throughout the winter where she competed in the World University Games in Lake Placid, NY. She then headed to Latvia and Estonia to compete in the IBU Jr. Cup where she had a top-50 finish in an individual race and a top-15 finish in the mixed relay at the Jr. Open European Championships. Kaisa Bosek (Alexandria, MN) joined Tanguay as a member of the US contingent through the Jr. IBU Cup in Estonia and Latvia with a 67th place finish highlighting her two weeks of competition.
"Traveling to new places and racing on some new trails has been really fun," said Tanguay. "It's easy to think about what I am missing out on back home, but I have been working on enjoying the process and living in the moment. It's been a good learning experience and opportunity to know other athletes and I am looking forward to ending this trip at the World Championships."
First year student athlete Nathan Livingood will make his return to the US Biathlon team after competing in the World University Games. He will be competing in the Youth Division at the IBU World Jr. Championships.
Head Coach Matt Dougherty was ecstatic about his athletes competing at this level, saying "I am so thrilled for all of our athletes who have had a chance to represent the US on the international stage this year." He then talked about what makes Paul Smith's College unique and why it's so attractice for student athletes in the Nordic disciplines to attend the school. "When we started building our biathlon program, this was the hope - to be able to allow athletes to pursue athletic excellence and at the same time get a world class education. No matter the result, these athletes are pioneers for Paul Smith's College and I am proud and grateful for their work and dedication to the sport and the school. For all of these athletes this is just one step in the process, but it's a tremendous step and such great proof of concept that we are doing great things at Paul Smith's College," he added.
