Bio

Coach Gerrish is originally from Potsdam, NY where he excelled as a three-sport athlete, playing soccer, hockey, and baseball.  After playing Junior Hockey in the US and Canada he chose to pursue soccer at the college level, playing games for SUNY Potsdam in the competitive SUNYAC league.  He transfered to Paul Smith's College his senior year to finish up his Bachelor's Degree.  He later received his Master's Degree from Green Mountain College in Environmental Studies.

Casey has been involved in hockey his whole life.  He started out helping his Uncle, Tim Gerrish - a renowned coach who won National Championships at the JuCo and DIII levels while also helping the US Women to win silver in Salt Lake City in 2002 - at summer hockey camps when he was a teenager.  From there he developed and found his passion for coaching, officiating, and administration, becoming an NCAA Div I and Div III referee while also acting as commissioner for the top non-professional men's league in Northern New York.  He was the lead statistician for the 2021 NWHL Isobel Cup, attended the 2022 USCAA Soccer and 2023 USCAA Basketball National Championships as on-site SID, wrote press releases for the 2023 FISU World University Games, helped as a coordinator for the 2023 AAU College Hockey National Championships, worked as Video Replay Review Official in the 2023 ECAC Men's Hockey Championships, officiated the NYS boys high school hockey Final Four, and has participated in showcases and exposure camps throughout the United States and Canada as a scout, instructor, and on-ice official.

Coach Gerrish has brought in numerous hockey players from all over the world, even from countries like Sweden, Australia, and the Czech Republic.  Recruiting players for such a unique learning atmosphere makes getting the right type of player not only challenging, but fun.  He understands that it takes a certain type of person to become a Smittie, and has relished the opportunity to build the hockey program from the ground up.  He enjoys watching the Toronto Maple Leafs lose in the first round of the playoffs, birding, watching/reading Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, hanging out with his dogs, and traveling.  The Adirondacks are the perfect place for him as he looks to settle down and help guide the Paul Smith's College men's hockey team to greatness and many years of success.
