Saranac Lake, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College Men's Hockey Team scored double digits in both games over the weekend as they dominated SUNY Jefferson 10-3 and SUNY OCC 12-2.
On Friday night in front of an estimated 400 fans, newcomer Nick Ogden (Queensbury, NY) started things off for the hosts as he carried the puck 3/4 of the ice and buried a quick wrister under the Cannoneer goaltender's blocker. Ogden would then get an assist on the Bobcat's second goal as Larry Parece (Woburn, MA) buried his first of the night. The Bobcats would score two more before the end of the period as Hazen Stoufer (East Montpelier, VT) and captain Colin Palmer (Clifton Park, NY) gave the Bobcats a padded lead going into the first intermission that they would not relinquish.
The second and third periods saw more dominance from PSC as Stoufer and Palmer buried their second goals of the night. Caden Engle (Clinton, NY), Tristan Côté (Shannon, QC, Canada), Owen Kime (Waterloo, NY) and Parece would round out the scoring en route to the 10-3 victory.
Jamie Perelli picked up his first collegiate point with an assist on Stoufer's second goal, while Omar Uqdah (North Adams, MA), Dylan Jannarone (Brick, NJ), Mike Hansen (Clinton, NY), Palmer, Cóté, Ogden, and Kime all added assists. Parece finished with 2G 3A to earn a share of Player(s) of the Game with linemates Hazen Stoufer and Gianluca Minicozzi (Montreal, QC, Canada) while Trevor Ray (Ashburn, VA) picked up his first collegiate win, finishing with 12 saves on 14 shots in two periods of action. Ethan Stefaniak (Franklin, VT) came in to shut the door in net for the third, stopping 10 of 11 shots.
"This was a much-needed win," said men's hockey head coach Casey Gerrish. "Even though this one didn't count in our league standings, it was an important game to win for team morale. We just lost to JCC in OT a couple weeks ago, so coming back and blowing them out at home was huge for our confidence," he added.
Saturday's game against the SUNY Onondaga Lazers saw more of the same as the Bobcats dominated from the first drop of the puck.
Attila Quesnel (Montreal, QC, Canada) led the way with a hat trick and added three assists while linemate Colin Palmer had three assists of his own. Hazen Stoufer added two more goals, while Sean Wright (Wappingers Falls, NY) and Owen Kime also scored a brace each. Ryen Janus (Frederick, MD), Dylan Jannarone, and Marshall Kiteley (Selkirk, MB, Canada) each scored solo goals, marking Kiteley's first collegiate goal. Joe Beaudoin (Falmouth, MA), Jannarone, and Hansen picked up two assists while Janus, Uqdah, Kime, Kiteley, Michael Lachance (Attleboro, MA), Julien Shafer (Queensbury, NY), Dylan Sauve (Wappingers Falls, NY), and junior assistant captain Kyle Davis (Canandaigua, NY) all added solo helpers.
Kevin Zamazal stopped 14 of 16 shots to earn his second win of the season. The Bobcats sit at 4-2 overall and head to Rhode Island this weekend to take part in the Wicked College Hockey Showcase to play some out-of-conference opponents. They take on Anna Maria Saturday at 12pm at the Rhode Island Sports Center, Followed by Babson on Sunday, also at 12pm and also at the Rhode Island Sports Center.
