Bobcats Win OT Thriller on Senior Night!
Paul Smiths, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College men's basketball team won a thriller in front of packed house at the Saunders Gymnasium on Friday night, beating Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences 81-76 in Overtime.
Junior transfer Howard Turner (Brooklyn, NY) led the way for the Bobcats with 22 points, but it was the seniors who hit clutch shots at key moments in the game. Kareem Chapman (Bronx, NY) nailed a couple of 3-pointers early in the game to extend the lead for the Bobcats, helping to give them a 39-29 advantage at the half. Anthony Frasier (Johnstown, NY) hauled in a team-high six rebounds, and Anthony Miller Jr. (New Haven, CT) shut the door with a beautiful pull-up jumper at the top of the key with a minute left in OT to seal the win.
"I knew it was going in," said Miller. "It felt good when it left my hands - I live for those moments." Miller finished with 11 points and led the team with eight assists and 34 minutes on the court. Miller, Chapman, and Frasier celebrated their senior night, and the win was the exclamation point they needed as they played their last home game at the Saunders Gymnasium.
"It felt good to win on senior night," added Miller. "It's not the way we wanted to win, but we got it done and that's all that matters. It felt good to be back in the win column."
Head Coach Josh Clemens echoed those sentiments, speaking to the emotions and meaning behind such an important night for the graduating student athletes. "Senior night is always a high emotion night but OT triples that emotion for everyone. As a team we were able to put those emotions to the side and close out a much-needed game. It was good to see our guys play tough through adversity... These are the moments that help a young team like ours build for the playoffs. I am extremely proud of our seniors," said Clemens.
Anthony Henson (Orlando, FL) contributed 13 points as a starter, while Sayvion Daniel (Roosevelt, NY) and Elijiah Pratt (Queens Village, NY) added 11 and seven points, respectively, off the bench. Pratt also added eight assists for the Bobcats.
On Sunday, the Bobcats easily handled Hampshire College on the road in Amherst, MA, winning 91-61. Stats for that game are incomplete at this time.
