Bobcats Host PSC Fall Classic
Saranac Inn, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College golf team hosted the Yankee Small College Conference's first match of the year on Saturday, as players from three teams slogged it out in the rain at the Saranac Inn Golf Club.
The PSC Fall Classic saw the hosts compete against UMaine Augusta and Great Bay Community College, falling short to the visiting Herons, who won the tournament with a score of 325. Paul Smith's College finished in second place, shooting 353.
Great Bay's Robbie Creteau captured the low score of the day, firing an impressive 76 in poor conditions, with teammate Jackson Strayer one stroke behind at 77. UMA's Dylan Bigler placed third with a score of 78, while PSC's Madison Bentley tied for fourth with a final score of 80. Teammate Daniel Miner was the second lowest Bobcat of the day, finishing with an 81 on a very tough course, which played both long and difficult as four separate downpours moved through the area during the course of the day. Conditions made play extremely wet and borderline miserable, but spirits stayed high as the event kicked off the start to the YSCC season.
This year's team is lead by Senior Co-Captains, Madison Bentley, Daniel Miner, and Caden Lucas. Other members of the team are seniors Cade Napoletano, David Stevens, Stewart Ebbels, Caleb Smith and Jared Johnson. They are joined by returning members Tyson Smith and Aidan Oberle. Freshmen Owen Kime, Sam Reynolds, Zach Hale, and Michael Marchese round out the 2023-2024 PSC golf team.
Head Coach Rod Bushey is optimistic about the season ahead, and has a group of student athletes dedicated to improving their game. "I am looking forward to this fall season with these student athletes as they have demonstrated and uphold the team's core values of Honesty, Integrity, Responsibilty and Sportsmanship. They have passion and commitment which I'm sure will allow them to be successful on and off the course," said Bushey.
The team next heads to Canton, NY to compete in the SLU Invitational this upcoming weekend.
