Bowling finishes 1st in preseason tournament
The Paul Smith's bowling squad began their season with an invitational tournament hosted at their home lanes at Romano's in Saranac Lake on Saturday.
The Varsity team manned by Jon Herrman, Nick Ferrara, Connor Bean, Kalei Fenn and Benjamin McInerney would sweep the field finishing 1st out of 6 teams, shooting a combined 3009 pins in the team portion of the tournament led by Nicholas Ferrara 256 and Kalei Fenn's 257 both high games of the entire tournament. The team could come out struggling in the baker portion of the tournament but would bounce back and shoot tournament highs of 205 and 208. The team would knock down 1833 pins in the baker portion finishing with 4842 total pins knocked down, over 300 more than 2nd place Fulton Montgomery with 4564.
The Women's team who competed in their first event ever as a team came in a respectable 3rd place knocking down 2299 pins in the team portion of the match led by Jessica Korkemaz 214 game and 563 series highest among the women in the field. Abby Cowan would also contribute with a 526 series and a high game of 188. The women would shoot 1526 in the baker round with team high games of 176 and 174.
Finally, the Bobcat's Junior Varsity team would finish in 4th place only trailing the women's team by 39 pins at days end. They were led by Lucas Machowski and his 557 series, shooting the high game for the JV with 190. They would go on to shoot 1540 in the baker series of the match with team high games of 190 and 172.
