YSCC Playoffs - Seeding Shows
(YSCC) ~ It was an impressive season for Yankee Small College Conference basketball, with many competitive contests. Talent across the conference was evident throughout the regular season. Let's take a look at this season's leaders and introduce our YSCC Elite 8 Playoff Brackets!
MEN
2023 Men's YSCC Seedings Show
# 1 - Central Maine CC Mustangs
- Central Maine has clinched the number one seed as our regular season comes to a close. The Mustangs finished with a strong record of 11-3 in conference play. They were led in scoring by Boston Caldwell at 15.6 points per game and Wyatt Hathaway at 15.4 points per game. DeMarco McKissic led the way in rebounds tallying 8.4 per contest. Central Maine will look to continue their success as they face off against Albany College of Pharmacy ands Health Sciences (ACPHS) in the first round.
#2 - NHTI Lynx
- NHTI had an incredibly strong season, also finishing 11-3 in conference play. Anthony Gauthier averaged 13.6 points per game to lead the scoring efforts for NHTI. Meanwhile, James Jones Jr. led the rebounding charge for NHTI as he averaged 8.4 per game. NHTI will host Paul Smith's College in the first round.
#3 - University of Maine Augusta Moose
- The University of Maine at Augusta had a solid season going 8-6 in conference play. Elijah Smith's 16.7 points per game and Trevor Beals' 15.8 points per game led the scoring efforts for the Moose. Big man Fraser McDonald averaged 9.9 rebounds per game, providing an essential presence in the paint for the Moose. They are set to host Great Bay CC in the first round of playoff action.
#4 - Southern Maine CC Seawolves
- The defending YSCC and USCAA DII champs also finished 8-6 in conference action. Jack Pyzynski led the scoring efforts for the Seawolves with 16.3 points per game. DeSean Cromwell contributed 11.3 points per game and led the team in rebounding with 7.2 per game. The Seawolves will open the first round of playoffs with a rematch of their regular-season finale loss against Vermont Tech.
#5 - Vermont Tech Knights
- Vermont Tech comes in at the fifth seed after finishing 7-7 in Yankee Small College Conference play. The Knights were led all around by Jaylon Calvin. He impressed all season, averaging 16.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game and finished strong against SMCC, nearly pulling off the elusive quadruple-double. Vermont Tech looks to pull off another upset victory over Southern Maine CC in the first round.
#6 Great Bay CC Herons
- Great Bay Community College wrapped up conference play going 7-7. Theodore Wolfe was a significant presence for the squad, averaging an impressive double-double with 15.5 points and 12.3 rebounds per contest. Bryce Gibson, 17.4 points per game, and Kingsley Breen, 16.7 points per game, also contributed impressive seasons.
#7 - Paul Smith's College Bobcats
- Paul Smith's College finished their season 3-11 in conference play. They were led by Yankee Small College Conference scoring champion Anthony Henson. He contributed 21.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. The Bobcats are set to travel to NHTI for first round of playoff action.
#8 - ACPHS Panthers
- Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences were led all around by Brett Richards. He posted 19.9 points per game and led the YSCC in rebounds, tallying 12.2 per game. Abe Pogue was also a key contributor to the team, as he delivered averages of 10.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. ACPHS will take on #1 seed Central Maine in the first round.
WOMEN
2023 Women's YSCC Seedings Show
# 1 - Central Maine CC Mustangs
- The defending YSCC and USCAA DII champs went undefeated in conference action this season, an impressive 13-0. While Mustangs' depth contributed to much of their success, Emily Strachan, 14.1 points per game, and Jade Smedburg, 7.8 rebounds per game, led the way statistically. The Mustangs have earned a first-round bye in this year's YSCC playoff action.
#2 - University of Maine Augusta Moose
- The University of Maine at Augusta had a stellar season going 11-3 in conference play—Alisyn Alley 13.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game that led the charge all around. Desirae Dumais contributed 12.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game as well. The Moose look to continue their impressive play as they take on Great Bay Community College in the first round of the Yankee Small College Conference playoffs.
#3 - Southern Maine CC Seawolves
- Southern Maine CC also finished 11-3 in conference play. For the Seawolves, Maddy York led the way with 15.9 points per game, highlighted by a 39-point, 11-made three-pointer effort. The team's depth impressed all year as six players contributed over eight points per game. The Seawolves are set to take on Vermont Tech in the first round.
#4 - Paul Smith's College Bobcats
- Jordan Louis and her 14.9 points per game helped lead the Paul Smith's College Bobcats to a 7-7 record. Four Bobcats averaged double-digit points this season. On the glass was Jayla Gray with 11.7 and Hayleigh Gates with 9.3 leading the way. The Bobcats will face off at home against NHTI in the first round.
#5 - NHTI Lynx
- NHTI went 4-9 in YSCC play this season. They were led in scoring by Jess Allen at 14.8 points per game. Bess Deacon tallied an impressive 14.4 rebounds per contest to lead the Lynx in that category. They are set to take on Paul Smith's in the first round.
#6 - Vermont Tech Knights
- Vermont Tech comes in at number six, as they went 4-10 in YSCC regular season action. Coreeahn Yharborough led the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game. Molly Bruso tallied 8.9 rebounds per game to lead her squad. Vermont Tech will take on SMCC in the first round of playoff action.
#7 - Great Bay CC Herons
- Great Bay CC rounds out the YSCC women's bracket, finishing their season 4-10 in conference play. The Herons were led by YSCC scoring leader Mary Paradis who averaged an impressive 22.5 points per game. The Herons were also led by YSCC rebound leader Madison Lovely, who grabbed 18.8 rebounds per game. Great Bay will take on UMA in the first round of playoff action.
