A Record 10 Bobcats Earn All-American Honors!
Paul Smiths, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College fall athletic teams have had a year for the record books as it pertains to All-American selections. Representing 4 distinct athletic teams, an impressive 10 student athletes were chosen as All-Americans across various levels. Paul Smith's College Athletic Director and Men's Soccer Head Coach Zack Luzzi was complimentary to both the student athletes and coaching staff when asked about the number of All-Americans this season. "The amount of All-Americans is a direct correlation to the work our coaches and studnet athletes put in not just during the season but year round. This wouldn't be achievable without our dedicated coaches and their ability to inspire our student athletes to put in the work necessary to achieve such great things!"
Representing the women's soccer team, Senior goalkeeper Anna Thrasher, in perhaps the most dominant goalkeeping season in PSC soccer history, was chose as USCAA Women's Soccer Division II Player of the Year. She finished the season leading the nation in goals against average (0.83), while also finishing second in save percentage (.877), and fifth in goals against (13). Sophomores Jamey Roy and Hayleigh Gates also dominated at their positions. Gates finished with 10 goals and 2 assists for 22 points, while Roy helped a shutdown defense that allowed just 13 goals all year. In addition, the Bobcats had a remarkable 8 shutouts on the season. Samantha Severing received 2nd Team All-American accolades with her 9 goal and 4 assist for 22 points performance on the season.
In addition, Head Women's Soccer Coach Bailey Walton won back-to-back USCAA Women's Soccer Division II Coach of the Year, guiding the Bobcats to back-to-back YSCC Championships and two National Tournament appearances in as many years. The team has combined for 20-2-7 overall record over the past two seasons.
Representing the men's soccer team, Noel Diaz was chosen as 1st Team All-American for USCAA Men's Soccer Division II. Diaz had impressive ball control, and was a force on both sides of the ball at center mid. He finished with 6 goals and 2 assists for 14 points. Senior goalkeeper Steven Donnelly and outside back Tim Romero were chosen for the USCAA All-American 2nd Team in Men's Soccer Division II. Donnelly finished second in the nation in save percentage (.891) while also finishing top-5 in saves (114) and goals against average (1.17).
For Women's Volleyball, Alexandra Cherry and Jordan Louis both received USCAA Women's Volleyball Division II 2nd Team All-American honors. Cherry finished with 172 kills for 2.92 kills/set and 218 digs for 3.69 digs/set. Louis finished with 157 kills for 2.66 kills/set and 238 digs for 4.03 digs/set, adding 54 service aces.
Rounding out the All-Americans is Wesley Burkit, who was named as a USCAA Women's Cross-Country 2nd Team All-American. Burkit paced the Bobcats through most races and finished in 10th place overall at the USCAA Nationals in Virginia Beach with a 6k time of 26:00.2.
