Tryouts and Up and Coming for Paul Smith's Woodsmen Team 2020
New Semester, New Start:
The Paul Smiths Woodsmen team started the semester right off with spring tryouts on January 22nd, 2020. The new semester brought back many strong competitors, along with welcoming a few new competitors with a lot of potential, including Brian Redmond, Katey Snyder, and Micah Kelly. We are looking forward to building our team with these new additions. The team decided to change some aspects up this season and will be bringing Men’s 1, Men’s 2, Jack and Jill 1, and Jack and Jill 2 teams to the four meets planned for the semester. Each season brings new challenges, captains on the team are confident starting the season with these new teams. All teams have a lot of potential this semester and hope to have success at all the meets.
WHATS NEXT:
Along with the changes within the teams this semester, the team has decided to change the meets that they will be attending this season. The team will be kicking the season off traveling to University of Maine February 29th, a new meet for them this year. We will then roll right into things with three back to back meets. Going to Finger Lakes Community College April 11th, SUNY Cobleskill April 18th and ending the season like usual with the biggest event of the year in collegiate timbersports, Spring Meet, which will be held at University of New Hampshire. Spring Meet is held over the course of two days April 24th and April 25th and brings all teams in the northeast together to compete.
Fearless leadership:
No team is successful without coaches. The Woodsmen team is lucky enough to be led by long-term, but young coach Dr. Brett McLeod, and Keith Braun. The Paul Smith’s Woodsmen team has been led by Dr. McLeod for years now. The team was lucky enough to have Mr. Braun step into coaching three years ago after competing on the team while a student here at Paul Smith’s College. Along with the fearless coaches, the team is led by their captains including Men’s 1 captain Dana Tripp, Men’s 2 captain Erik Schauffler, Jack and Jill 1 captain Abigayle Brietzke and Jack and Jill 2 captain Jazzmin Wipf. Of course, the team would not be able to do it without the dedication from the whole team.
