What Does the Fall 2020 Season Look Like for Paul Smith’s Men’s Rugby?
Paul Smith N.Y. With the COVID-19 outbreak, contact sports have almost been eliminated. Our men’s rugby team has not given up hope on one day stepping back onto the field. The team has been consistently practicing since the end of August. They practice twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm.
Staying Close
With the team not practicing as much due to the COVID restrictions, team bonding has not been the same. Normally bonding through a team happens very easily when playing in real games. This is because they are relying on each other to do their job so they can come out of the game with a win. Since this is not possible this year the team is instead going for a hike every weekend. They are doing this as a whole team to help build their relationships while also getting a good workout in.
Hopes for Playing?
The men’s rugby team has no scheduled games for this year as of now. The coaches are still trying to schedule games with the hopes that at some point before the semester ends, they could get a few in. As of now, the rugby team is working with Josh Clemens and Zack Luzzi the basketball and soccer coaches to try and figure out a way for their teams to play some inter-squad games. Their hope with this is that it will give the players the idea that they are playing a game, while also allowing Paul Smith’s College students to spectate and cheer as we use too. Head Captain Jeremy Jones gave me this quote about the season. “More than anything it’s just nice to get out of the dorms and classroom and partake in something off-campus.” I believe we could all get behind Jeremy and hope we get a chance to watch the boys’ play
