48 Enjoy Running in the 20th Annual Pumpkin Muffin 5K Guess Your Time Race on the Paul Smith's College Campus

 

Corey Roth (Rocheseter, NY) as well as Ashley Evans (SO:  Tully, NY) and Chloe Mattilio (FR:  Willow Street, PA) were the overall winners of the 20th Annual Pumpkin Muffin 5K Run held at the Paul Smith’s College campus on Saturday, October 26, 2013.  Corey returned to the college campus for this Homecoming Weekend event as a transfer student currently attending SUNY – Cortland. 

Zach Davidson placed second overall in 19:13, while Matt Piper placed third in 19:44.  For the women, Ana Hull placed third in 25:20, followed by Corrie Desilets and Lea Anthony in 26:54. 

Alex Kelchner and Matt Piper tied for the predict your time portion of the Pumpkin Muffin as both were a mere one second off from their estimated finish time.  Kelchner and Piper were exactly one minute apart in their actual finish times of 20:44 and 19:44 respectively, while both estimated their finish times to be one second longer than their estimates.

On the women’s side, four members of the National championship bound soccer team estimated that it would take 30:52 to complete the 5K, while it actually took them 31:03 ~ nine seconds more than their estimated time.  Nicole Landry, Jen Maguder, Caitlin Willis, and Natalie Palko ran together in matching costumes.  For their successful estimates, they were rewarded with a quart of Paul Smith's College maple syrup. 
A total of 48 athletes took part in this year’s Pumpkin Muffin.  This was a fun event for the Paul Smith's College cross country team, alumni and area residents as many dressed in seasonal costumes.  Top costume prizes were awarded, with Jorden Spencer winning the best costume award for the third consecutive year.
 
Several of the cross country teams’ family members made the trip to the college to take part as well.  Pumpkins were awarded to the top three for six age group categories.  Pumpkin muffins and cider were provided for this, the 20th running of the Pumpkin Muffin 5K.
The Paul Smith's College Striders will begin hosting snowshoe races in November, and look forward to the 20th annual Jingle Bell Snowshoe Race in early December.
