Lady Bobcats Beat ESF for Barkeater Cup
Tully, NY ~ For the first time in twelve years the Paul Smith's College Women's Soccer Team are Barkeater Cup Champions.
The Bobcats beat the SUNY ESF Mighty Oaks for the first time since 2012 on Saturday, September 14th in a rematch of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Women's Division II semifinal held last November in Pittsburgh, PA. That game, which ended in a tie, went to penalties, as ESF came away with the victory on their way to competing in the USCAA National Championship game which they ended up losing to the University of Cincinnati at Clermont.
Last Saturday's game saw Hayleigh Gates (West Winfield, NY) get things started on a nice assist from Maddy Jackson (New Bern, NC). Gates would then assist Matti Swan (Schenectady, NY) to make it 2-0 in favor of the Bobcats. The Mighty Oaks would get one back but the staunch defense of the visiting Bobcats kept the hosts off the scoresheet for the remainder of the game, ending the 12-year Barkeater Cup drought with a 2-1 victory.
The Bobcats improved their record to 3-1 with the win.
