October 18, 2022
Paul Smiths, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College women's soccer team has finished their second consective regular season without a loss. The USCAA Week 3 coaching poll ranks them #1 in the nation and atop the YSCC standings. The final stretch was a big test for the Bobcats, but they pulled off 2 wins and 1 tie in the final three games of the season which were played over five days.
On Tuesday, the Bobcats hit the road to play at Word of Life where Samantha Severing (Livingston Manor, NY) and Haven Bradt (Berea, OH) helped the team to a 2-0 win. Abigail Bateman and Jamey Roy had strong standout games at defense, which added to another clean sheet for senior goalkeeper Anna Thrasher (Leonia, NJ), who finishes the season with five shutouts.
Saturday, the Bobcats traveled to Vermont Technical College where they dominated in a 9-0 win. Goals from seven different Bobcats included: Hayleigh Gates (West Winfield, NY) , Samantha Severing, Leah Cuolombe (Champlain, NY), Haven Bradt, Madison Reardon (Saranac Lake, NY), Ashley Carli (Leroy, NY), and Allie Lamb (Canajoharie, NY). The depth in the roster has the team primed for another deep run into USCAA Nationals next month in Virginia Beach.
The Bobcats turned around the next day to play at home versus Hudson Valley Community College and pulled off a 2-2 tie on Senior Day. Katrien Roefs (Bainbridge, NY) had a phenomenal performance with both goals for the Bobcats. Another big standout player was local talent, Madison Reardon, in the midfield for the home squad. Paul Smith's College honored its graduating seniors before the game, which included: Anna Thrasher, Danielle Lockwood (Cape May Courthouse, NJ), Allie Lamb, Caroline Armstrong (Detroit, MI), and Ruth Marscham (Parramatta, NSW, Australia).
Paul Smith's College finishes the regular season at 7-0-5, recording the 5 ties as a result of the Conference moving away from OT in the regular season. The Bobcats move into playoffs with a first-round bye as the #1 seed in the Yankee Small College Conference. The team will head to NHTI October 29th-30th for the Conference Semifinals, playing the winner of #4 Southern Maine CC & #5 Central Maine CC.
