Bobcats Finish 3rd at Founding Tree Invitational at Hampshire College featuring over 12 colleges
Eliot Soderholm paced the Bobcats with a 16th place finish with a time of 29:04 to lead the Bobcats to a third-place team finish at the Founding Tree Invitational hosted by Hampshire College in Amherst, MA.

Men's 8K: Paul Smith's College placed 3rd at the Founding Tree Invitational, led by Eliot Soderhold (SO/Reston, VA) with a time of 29:04 to place 11th overall. Phil Matthews (JR/Waterford, NY) placed 24th overall at 31:03, followed by Edison Byrum (FY/Twelve Mile, IN) in 31:05, and Wes Burkit (SR/Bath, PA) in 31:10. Zack Viertel (FY/Amherst, NY) rounded out the scoring five for the Bobcats with a PR best time of 34:27 to place 60th overall.
Norwich University won the men's 8K with 46 points, followed by Fitchburg State with 53 points to place second. Paul Smith's placed third with 125 points.
Women's 6K: Joanna Kershner led the way for the Bobcats in the Women's 6K event at the Hampshire College Founding Tree Invitational on Saturday with a time of 28:22 to place 16th overall. Kershner had a tough race a week ago at St. Lawrence University in the Ronald Hoffmann Invitational, and yet she took a full ten minutes off her 6K time at Hampshire College.
Chloe Freund (FR/Clinton, NY) has been leading the team through the first month of competition, and she improved her 6K time by two-minutes finishing in 29:06 to place 24th. Brooklynn Shumway (SO/Bloomingdale, NY) placed 31st in 30:22. All three runners improved their competition pace times considerably at the Founding Tree, and are laying a great foundation for the Yankee Small Conference Championships taking place on this same course at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA.
The Bobcats will be running in the Paul Smith's College 10K and Half Marathon on Saturday October 5th as a relaxed flaming leaves event that allows the team members to run with family members and friends without the pressures associated with a collegiate meet. This will begin with an 8:00 AM start at the entrance to the college at the junctions of State Route 86 and 30, heading SW towards Saranac Lake, and then following the Jones Pond, Rainbow Lake Road and the Oregon Plains Road with the half marathon finishing near the former Norman's Store in Bloomingdale, NY.
