Norbro Stands Tall in Net
The Paul Smith's College men's hockey team dropped a pair of games against Cortland on Saturday and Sunday, but bright spots emerged even with the two losses. Axel Norbro (Vimmerby, Sweden) played outstanding hockey in net for the Bobcats, recording 54 saves in Game 1 and 48 saves in Game 2 against the Red Dragons.
After a canceled game on Friday night vs. Union because of the snowstorm, the Bobcats went into action Saturday night against the visiting team from Cortland. In a 1st period which saw Norbro turn away all 24 shots he faced, it became apparent that this would end up being a close game. The Red Dragons got the scoring started 5 minutes into the 2nd period on a finish from Sean Hans. Senior Donovan Hack (Saranac, NY) collected his sixth goal of the season 5 minutes later on a bang-bang play off the draw which split the legs of the visiting goaltender. The score remained 1-1 through the 2nd.
The 3rd period was a nail biter, as Cortland scored two goals within 2 minutes of each other halfway through the final frame. The Bobcats controlled play for the final minutes and were able to get one back as the goalie was pulled. Wyatt Krolczyk (Varysburg, NY) continued his impressive freshman campaign with another goal, and assists going to Tyler Svarczkopf (Brasher Falls, NY) and Dylan Jannarone (Brick, NJ).
The comeback would come up just a goal short, as Paul Smith's College was unable to generate anything else. With the final score at 3-2, both teams shook hands and congratulated each other on a well-played hockey game. Axel Norbro finished with a fantastic 54 saves in net.
The next night saw more of the same from Norbro, but with Cortland's deep bench and PSC losing three players, the Red Dragons were too much too overcome for the Bobcats. Krolczyk added another goal on his season and Norbro collected an impressive 59 saves, but the Bobcats fell short by a score of 4-1.
The final game of the season is this Friday, February 11th at 7:30pm at the Albany Country Hockey Facility against UAlbany. Come down to the capital district and support your Bobcats in their final game of the season!
