Bobcats Defeat Huskies in Late Action Thriller
Pottersville, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College men's basketball team won a big Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) game last night as they defeated the Word of Life Bible Institute Huskies 63-62 on the road Wednesday night.
Zion Mifflin (Millsboro, DE) was outstanding, scoring a game-high 25 points as the Bobcats vaulted over the Huskies to fifth place in the YSCC league standings. Mifflin added six rebounds, two assists, four steals, and one block to go with his 25 points which included some late-game heroics. With under four minutes left in the game, the first year guard gathered a pass from Jayden Williams and drove to the basket for a slam dunk to get the Bobcats within two at 60-58. Just over a minute later, with 2:15 on the clock, Mifflin then buried a 3-pointer to put the Bobcats up 61-60.
"It felt great to be able to help my team gain momentum and finish the game the right way," said Mifflin. "We're confident going into this semester because we know what it takes to win... the team vibe is great," he added.
Williams sealed the game at 1:42 with a layup as he and Willie Jennings IV (Hyattsville, MD) both finished with 13 points. Jennings was a rebound away from a double-double, finishing with nine boards as he was a factor at both ends of the court. Zach Muroff (Boston, MA), Savior Arroyo, and Ben Marra (Castleton-On-Hudson, NY) rounded out the scoring with six, four, and two points, respectively.
"I was really proud of our guys and their resilience," said head coach Tim Lamay. "I think we took advantage of a great opportunity for growth and learning."
The win moves the Bobcats to 7-11 overall as they look to climb the ladder in the YSCC. Next up is Central Maine CC at home on Sunday, January 26th at 2pm in the Saunders
"Winning conference games is hard, and even harder on the road, but winning a conference game on the road in come back fashion is the hardest. It was great to get a win that helped us jump up in the conference standings," added Lamay.
