PSC Men’s Basketball Open 2024-2025 Campaign With Two Road Wins
Syracuse, NY ~ The Paul Smith's Men's Basketball Team traveled to Syracuse over the weekend for a pair of road games to open their 2024-2025 campaign. The Bobcats beat SUNY ESF on Friday and SUNY OCC on Saturday to return home with a 2-0 record and a weekend sweep.
On Friday, the Bobcats faced off against SUNY ESF and came away with a 95-91 victory over the Acorns. The team was led by an impressive performance from Junior guard Anthony Henson (Orlando FL) who dropped in 32 points. Henson's scoring was the feature, but the Bobcats squad scored in a rather balanced fashion. Von Dixson (Detroit, MI) finished with 12 points while Elijiah Pratt (Queens, NY) and Willie Jennings IV (Hyattsville, MD) added 11 points each. Zion Mifflin (Millsboro, DE) also contributed double digits with 10 points in the win.
The Bobcats got out to an early lead and maintained it through the game as they stymied a great comeback effort late in the second half by the Acorns. The run brought the game to within just two points before Paul Smith's College were able to extend it back to seven. ESF made a ¾ court shot on the last play to bring the final score within four, 95-91.
On Saturday, The Bobcats visited the SUNY OCC Lazers in the Allyn Gymnasium and eventually pulled away with a 118-95 victory to give them their second win of the season. It was another balanced scoring attack led by first year player Zion Mifflin (35 points) and followed closely Anthony Henson (25 points). Von Dixson and Jassen Decoste (North Miami, FL) each provided 11 points of their own, while Elijiah Pratt and Zamil Larry (Tampa Bay, FL) scored 10 and nine points, respectively.
The Lazers came out of the jump ball with a full court press, which they played for most of the game, which was handled nicely by the Bobcats. The team, which led the entire game, was eventually able to stretch the lead to 36 points, before winning by a final margin of 23, 118-95.
"I am really pleased with how our team came ready to play. The first games of the year can be challenging, especially playing them on the road like we did, but the guys stepped up to the challenge and played pretty well for our first games" said head coach Tim Lamay.
The Bobcats will play host to NHTI in their first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) conference battle of the season. The game will be played in the Saunders Sports Complex on Sunday, November 10th at 1:00pm.
