Golfers Finish Season at USCAA Nationals
State College, PA ~ Three members of the Paul Smith's College Golf Team competed at the 2024 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Golf National Tournament earlier this week, completing their season against the top golfers in the country.
Nick Porreca (Queensbury, NY, Sam Reynolds (Potsdam, NY), and Zach Hale (East Burke, VT) competed in the national championship held at Penn State University's Blue Course State College, PA. The trio battled 30 other colleges from around the United States.
On Monday, not only was the competition tough but mother nature also added some elements to the tournament. The weather was 44° F with wind gust of up to 40+ MPH. Sophomore Nick Porreca led the team shooting a round of 87, followed by Sophomore Sam Reynolds' 98 and Sophomore Zach Hales' 102.
On day two the winds died down, but the temperature still started in the low 40's and only warmed up to the low 50's. Porreca fired a round of 83 for a two-day total of 170 placing Nick in a tie for 49th place overall. Reynolds shot a round of 89 for a two-day total of 187, placing him 82nd overall. Hale added a 111 for a two-day total of 213, placing him 94th overall.
