PSC Golf Earn Third Place in Home Tournament as Porreca Paces Team
Saranac Inn, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College golf team was back on the course over the weekend as they hosted their annual fall tournament at the Saranac Inn Golf Club.
The tournament, comprimsed of teams from Paul Smith's College, Southern Maine CC, and UMaine - Augusta, saw beautiful weather on the day as players drove, chipped, and putted their way into the first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) and United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) action of the season.
Southern Maine CC took top honors with a combined team score of 319 while UMaine - Augusta shot 332 and Paul Smith's College tallied 394 (A Team) and 425 (B Team). Nick Porreca (Queensbury, NY) had the low round of the day for the Bobcats as he shot a respectful 95. The former hockey-player-turned-golfer has been a consistent player on head coach Rod Bushey's team, adding depth to group that lost six seniors to graduation in the spring.
"It was great getting back out there to play golf with all my teammates," said Porreca. "Starting off the year playing at our home course and having the best score on the team is a big confidence booster for the rest of the season," he added.
Porreca joins the team after taking his freshman year off - making his low round in his first tournament representing Paul Smith's College that more remarkable. Rouding out the scoring for the Bobcats A squad was Owen Kime (Waterloo, NY), Sam Reynolds, (Potsdam, NY), and Zach Hale (East Burke, VT) who shot 97, 100, and 102, respectively.
The Bobcats are back at it Saturday, September 7th as they travel to the Beaver Meadow Golf Course in Concord, NH to compete in the NHTI Fall Invitational.
