PSC Anglers Finish in Top Half of First Tourney
Massena, NY ~ The Paul Smith's College Bass Fishing Team competed at the Major League Fishing (MLF) Abu Garcia College Bass Fishing Tournament on Sunday, with a senior-first year duo finishing in the top-10 out of a packed field.
After a tough three days of practice on the mighty St. Lawrence River, the two PSC team competing had a plan going into the event. Nature, however, had other ideas, as the conditions on the St. Lawrence can change within minutes. Traveling 70 miles down river, both Bobcat boats made some last-minute adjustments and got onto a terrific bite on tournament morning.
With 34 teams competing, the duo of senior captain Mason Coburn (Colchester, VT) and Finn Rugg (Hinesburgh, VT) finished in 17th place overall with a combined weight of 15lbs 6oz. Meanwhile, Brenden Lucia (Holden, MA) and Collin Trapiss (Palmyra, NY) finished in eighth place with a weight of 18lbs 4oz.
As a first year student, Trapiss was fishing in his first competitive college tournament. "The adrenaline that I felt going back to the weigh-ins was insane," said Trapiss. "It was a feeling I had never felt before, and when I walked up on stage it was like the dream I had been chasing since I was a kid," he added.
The bass fishing team will be back on the St. Lawrence River on September 7th and 8th for round two as they compete in a North Country Bass Anglers (NCBA) tournament.
