Women's Soccer Get Their First Goal

Women's Soccer

(Paul Smith's, NY) After a long bus ride to New York, the UMA Moose women's soccer team stepped on to the pitch against the Paul Smith's Bobcats with one thing in mind, score their first goal. That mission would happen just 1:18 into the game when #18 Gabby Allen took a long shot just outside the right corner of the box picking up the team's first goal of the season. The Moose continued to keep the Bobcats in check until Samantha Severing hit pay-dirt off a hard strike near the penalty mark and then her second goal of the game would come about 8 minutes later off a rebound from a great save by Hailey Guilmet who would end the day saving 26 out of the 32 SOG. Captain Sammy Thornton said "We are staying positive and building what we know will be a strong program." The Moose continue to focus on chemistry and know that a win is just around the corner.

Men's Soccer

(Paul Smith's, NY) The UMA Moose men's soccer team made history on Saturday when they faced the USCAA's 7th pre-season ranked Paul Smith Bobcats. The decade drought of no soccer at UMA came to an end when head coach Justin Wentworth lead the Moose onto the pitch. "Today we show everyone that soccer is alive at UMA and that we just aren't here to play games." coach Wentworth said during his pre-game huddle. The Moose instantly went on the attack and had the first shot of the game bounce off the left post from the foot of #19 Ihsan Abdalnabi. The Bobcats pounced back scoring two goals on corner kicks in the first 45 minutes of play. During the break at half, captain Owen Yabsira spoke to the team. "We are learning our chemistry, so talk and communicate on the field. We are far from done here. Let's show them what it means to play the Moose!". The action was back and forth for the first few minutes of the 2nd half until you could see the pitch start to tilt in favor of the Moose. At the 58:54 mark, # 19 Ihsan Abdalnabi would find the back of the net off a deflection from the Bobcat goalie, scoring the first goal of the season. Fired up, the Moose quickley responded just 2 minutes later when #19 Ihsan Abdalnabi found #20 Zane Dean open at the top off the box and with a hard shot tied the game. The Bobcats and Moose ended the day in a 2-2 tie and for coach Wentworth, that was just as good as a win. "To come here today and play our first game the way we did, I couldn't be anymore proud of all our players".
