Heading into the 2021 season Bobcat’s Women’s Soccer is set to hire a familiar face to augment the coaching staff. 4 year starter and 3 year captain, Kelvey McGinnis, rejoins Coach Bailey Waltons team but she is trading the cleats for a clipboard.
While a Bobcat McGinnis received team MVP her Freshman & Sophomore Season. McGinnis majored in Fisheries and Wildlife and received 6 semesters on Dean’s List. In 2019 Kelvey led the team to their first semi-final appearance since 2012. That season the senior captain was awarded “Player of the Year” from the Paul Smith’s Athletic’s Department.
“I've been playing soccer ever since I can remember,” McGinnis added. “I had the privilege of playing during all 4 years of college on the Women's Soccer team at PSC and now coming back as the Assistant Coach is a great honor and I’m looking forward to an amazing season.”
Head Coach Bailey Walton is thrilled to have McGinnis return to Paul Smith’s College. “Kelvey was a phenomenal player and asset to our program. I look forward to seeing her leadership skills from Captain translate into coaching.”
While the COVID-19 pandemic caused the cancelation of the fall 2020 Season, Paul Smith’s Women’s Soccer was able to get one victory in their single away match versus WOLBI. Prior the Paul Smith’s Women’s Soccer team advanced to the YSCC Semi-Finals after an upset 2-1 victory over Maine Machias.
Paul Smith’s Women’s Soccer kicks off their season on August 28th versus SUNY Adirondack before heading to Vermont the following weekend to compete against Lyndon & Johnson.
