Lady Bobcats Add Gates to the Hardwood and the Field
PAUL SMITHS N.Y. –
The Paul Smith’s College Women’s Basketball team has tabbed their first recruit of the year adding a Section III standout. Hayleigh Gates, of West Winfield New York, is a 3-time all-conference player in the Center State Conference. As a member of the Mt. Markham Central School, Gates has accumulated over 750 points in three seasons and helped leader her team to a 15-6 record her in the 2019-2020 campaign.
The 5'5 guard is the first step in the Bobcats plan to rebuild the program. “We are getting a very talented player whose skills set will provide balance scoring and stability on defense” Coach Andrew Pond said, “we are looking to make a huge jump in the YSCC standings in the 2021-2022 season and Gates will be key.”
“I'm looking forward to working hard alongside my teammates to help build the program into a competitive and memorable season” Gates added when asked about her upcoming season for the Bobcats.
Daughter of Jennifer and High School Coach Steven Gates, Gates will also join the women soccer team which is looking to make it back to the Final Four of the YSCC tournament after a non-competitive 2020 season. Gates is no newcomer to the field, as she earned three all-conference nods in soccer as well.
Gates will be studying Fisheries & Wildlife Sciences at her self-described “Dream School”, and is an exciting addition to the class of 2025.
