PSC snowshoe team competes in Pottersville

The Paul Smith’s College snowshoe team competed in its final race on Saturday before the Snowshoe World Championships at the Caveman 6-kilometer Snowshoe Race in Pottersville.

Eliot Soderholm of Reston, Virginia continued his stellar season and secured an overall win with a time of 35 minutes, 36.9 seconds, edging out Francis Disomma of Adirondack, who finished in 35:37.0. Paul Smith’s Logan Krahn placed third in 37:53, Wesley Burkit (39:39) was fourth and Ian Montgomery-Gehrt (40:24) was fifth.

The Bobcats were rounded out by Carson Wohlers (43:41) in seventh, Aidan Minihan (47:16) in ninth and Casimir Coubles (47:17) in 10th.

Bloomingdale’s Brooklynn Shumway led the Paul Smith’s women with a second-place finish in 50:29,. She was followed by teammate Olivia Bobbie in third place at 51:07. Joanna Kerchner placed fifth in 57:53, while Ashley Carli placed sixth in 1:04:14.

Twenty-seven runners completed the challenging 6K course that included a 500-foot ascent with several climbs over the first half of the woodland trails.

Following Saturday’s race, nine members of the Paul Smith’s College team are heading to Fuente De, Spain this week to represent the United States in the World Championships. Nearly 50 runners from the United States will be taking part in the 8.5K course run above tree line in the Picos de Europa mountain range.

This is the same venue where the World Championship took place in 2018, the year after Saranac Lake hosted the World Championships at Dewey Mountain Recreation Center.
