Seawolves split in conference action

CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's volleyball team split on the road in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) action on Saturday, Sept. 9.

W, 3-0 vs. ACPHS

The Seawolves defeated Albany in straight sets, 25-17, 25-8, 25-12.

SMCC's strong offensive production landed 11 kills in 20 attempts in the first set. In the second, the Seawolves managed two kills, but held the opposition to just eight points. The third set saw a better offensive performance from both teams, SMCC's .429 hitting percentage was the best of the day.

First-year Patrice Broughton (Hartford, Conn.) recorded eight kills in 13 attempts, added five service aces and two blocks, accumulating 15.5 points.

Sophomore Jordan Bickford (Cumberland, Maine) played a crucial role providing 11 assists and three service aces. First-year Emily Roy (Biddeford, Maine) netted 10 assists and 10 service aces.

The final score was 3-0 in favor of Paul Smith's College, with set scores of 25-23, 25-16, and 25-11.

Looking at the box score, the Seawolves struggled to find their rhythm. In the first set, the team recorded six kills, eight errors, and a negative hitting percentage of -.069. Their performance remained similar in the second and third sets.

PSC's Finnley Jacobson was impressive with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .500. Alli Cherry contributed 6 kills with a hitting percentage of .429.

SMCC's Broughton had a positive impact with three kills and two blocks, while first-year Candace Pelotte (Sydney, Maine) had 4 kills and 4 service aces. Sophomore Jordan Bickford (Cumberland, Maine) tallied 12 assists.
