Ellen Haas and Eliot Soderholm Lead the Way at Dewey Mountain Snowshoe Challenge
Ellen Haas and Eliot Soderholm paced the women and men through the 7Km Dewey Mountain Challenge Snowshoe Race in Saranac Lake.

Race Results: The recent snowfall provided near perfect conditions for the Dewey Mountain Challenge snowshoe race held at Dewey Mountain in Saranac Lake. The warm spell softened up the snow, created some challenges in laying out the course as planned, so management scraped the planned snowshoe traverse over the top of Dewey Mountain, and took advantage of the typical trail system lower on the mountain to avoid some of the ice and drainage issues near the summit.
Paul Smith's College students Eliot Soderholm and Ellen Haas led the way, with Soderholm winning the 7K in 28:48 and Ellen Haas winning for the women in 38:02. Wesley Burkit, Zack Sprott – Scribner, and Logan Krahn finished among the top four, with times of 30:27, 31:53 and 31:57 respectively. Dan Edelstein (Saranac Lake) won the men's 60 – 74 age category in 35:04.
Olivia Bobbie won the women's 15 – 19 age category in 42:57, while Joanna Kershner placed second in 50:06. Bekkie Wright won the women's 60 – 74 age category in 52:24.
This provided a great tune-up for most of the athletes entered, as they are heading to Spain to represent the United States in the World Championships on March 2nd. Next weekend, the Paul Smith's College Snowshoe Team will be heading to Pottersville, NY to compete in the Natural Bridge and Caves 6K Caveman Snowshoe Race for the final event before heading to Spain.
