Adirondack Snowshoe Festival 5K & 15K Snowshoe Races

Alex Cameron and Ellen Haas paced a field of 15 snowshoe runners through the fast 5K course at the Paul Smith's College VIC around the Heron Marsh trail as part of the Adirondack Snowshoe Festival with times of 21:42 and 24:59 respectively.  Cameron was working hard to overcome a tough challenge from Dan Edelstein of Saranac Lake to reverse the results from the first stage of the Adirondack Snowshoe Festival the prior day at Dewey Mountain.  Edelstein placed second at the VIC with a fine time of 22:09. 

Carson Wohlers placed third overall in 22:23, while winning the men's U-20 age category, followed by Dermot O'Connor in 22:59.  Fellow Smitties Nate Shader and Issoufou Gabra – Hama placed 4^th and 5^th respectively in 23:22 and 24:44 respectively. 

Ellen Haas is the reigning 10K collegiate national champion from her win in McCall, Idaho, and she has continued to do well this season.  She was followed by Haven Bradt in 36:01 to place second, and Awinita Stasilli in 39:48.  

Matt Medeiros of Cadyville, NY won the 15K event at the VIC in 1:00:35, followed by Noah Kuc of Paul Smith's College in 1:09.  While Medeiros placed fifth at US Nationals in McCall, Idaho to earn a berth on the US National Team, Kuc became the 10K collegiate national champion in his first attempt at racing the 10K distance in McCall, Idaho.  Wes Burkit was the third finisher to cross the line, in a time of 1:19, followed by fellow PSC student Madison Reardon in 1:22 to be the first woman to run the 15K.  Bekkie Wright of Saranac Lake won the 60 – 69 women's category with a time of 1:57:30. 

The next event on the calendar is the Hammond Hill Snowshoe Squall 6K Snowshoe Race in Hammond, Ontario.  This will be the Ontario Provincial Championships on February 26^th at Hammond Hill Resort.
