For the Paul Smith's College students, this was their first snowshoe race of the season after having been away from the college since final exams concluded. The Hoot, Toot and Whistle was a great way to introduce the students to distance running on snowshoes, and to prepare them for the next seven weeks of the season.
All the age group winners received a commemorate railroad spike, as this race was run on an abandoned railroad grade, which has been converted to a recreational use trail. It was quite awesome to have four of our six runners receive these commemorative railroad spikes in recognition of their race performance at the Hoot, Toot and Whistle Snowshoe Race.
The overall winners, Josh Ferenc and Suzy West are accomplished nationally ranked trail runners during the summer months. It is always exciting to see who will attend and compete in snowshoe racing from weekend to weekend.
