The Paul Smith's College hockey team...
The Paul Smith's College hockey team recorded their first win of the season on saturday, beating the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons by a score of 1-0.
After an excellent first period, the Bobcats went into the break leading 4-2. Tim Fuller (Tupper Lake, NY) got things rolling team with a beautiful slapshot from the point that found its way off of the upper right goalpost and into the back of the net to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Assisting on the power play goal were Cody Liguori (Rutland, VT) and Kyle Bond (Potsdam, NY).
Caitlin Fortin (Highgate, VT) then made it 2-0 with a snipe from the slot that beat the Oneonta goaltender's high glove side. Cody Liguori scored 54 seconds later to put the Bobcats up 3-0 after a nice setup from Justin Engler (Amherst, NY).
After Oneonta got two goals back, Cody Liguori tallied his second of the game, with assists coming from Justin Engler and Kyle Bond.
The second frame saw 5 unanswered goals from the Red Dragons, as the long change hurt the Bobcats.
After a couple of fluky goals in the final period, the game was called due to game disqualification penalties for all but two of the Oneonta players. Much to the delight of the fans, the scorekeeper announced the 1-0 forfeit win, and with that, the Bobcats earned their first victory of the 2018-2019 season.
