Bass Fishing Team Finishes Season at TBF Collegiate Championship on Lake Champlain
Ticonderoga, NY ~ The bass fishing team wrapped up their season over the weekend, competing in the NYS The Bass Federation (TBF) Collegiate State Championship in Ticondergoa, NY on Lake Champlain. Three boats cracked the top-10, while two Bobcats earned individual efforts with a podium finish and a biggest bass trophy.
Two days of scouting and pre-fishing put the team on a solid bite plan for the competition Saturday morning. With heavy rains and winds in the forecast, the team was able to capitalize on their plan, putting 70+ miles on each boat on their way to landing their five-fish limit for weigh-in.
The team of James Curry (Somers, NY) and Caleb Smith (St. Albans, VT) hauled in a bag of 14.47lbs, landing them in sixth place. Mason Coburn (Colchester, VT) and Finn Rugg (Hinesburgh, VT) caught a combined weight of 18.43lbs, good enough for fourth place. Fishing solo, junior Brenden Lucia (Holden, MA) earned a third-place podium finish with 18.44lbs. In addition, Caleb Smith landed the biggest bass of the tournament – a 5.93lb monster.
The top-4 positions were separated by a mere 3 ounces, showing how much parity there was at the top level of the competition. Head coach Brett Wimsatt noted the logjam at the top and thanked his team, stating "This was an incredible tournament to end our fall season."
