Bobcats wins YSCC Bowling Team championships in NH; Kalei Fenn and Nick Ferrara win individual titles.
Bowling YSCC Dynasty Continues with sixth straight title.
April 06 - 07, 2019 - Merrimack, NH - The 2019 YSCC Bowling Tournament held at Merrimack Lanes in Merrimack, NH. With a turnout of over 60 student-athletes and 6 schools represented including NHTI, Paul Smith's, UMA -Bangor, UMA - Augusta, Unity, and Vermont Tech.
Despite showing up late the Paul Smith's bowling team still dominated the competition defeating the other Paul Smith's team in the first round. Then the Bobcats moved on and defeated the second seeded Knights of Vermont Tech in the semi-finals 637 - 450, while Unity College defeated NHTI to advance to the championships. Paul Smith's defeated Unity for the championship by a score of 594 – 436. This was the sixth consecutive team title for Paul Smith's College and the seventh in eight years of collegiate bowling in the YSCC for the Bobcats. In the consolation bracket, NHTI and Vermont Tech played for third which was won by Vermont Tech.
On Sunday the tournament took place where the top twenty men and twenty women bowlers in the conference each rolled three games, and by total pins, four advanced to the semi-finals. Using the total pins, #1 versus #4 and #2 versus #3 battled in the semi-finals for both men and women.
In the semi-finals for the women, Kalei Fenn (Paul Smith's College) defeated Laura McCarty (NHTI) 176 – 167, while Abby Cowan (Paul Smiths) defeated Kate Springsteen (NHTI) 182 – 143. In the all PSC Finals, Kalei Fenn defeated Abby Cowan 217 – 143.
This was Kalei's 3rd championship title in four years. Kalei won the YSCC Women's title in 2016; 2018; 2019, while she placed second to her teammate, Jessica Korkemaz in 2017.
Freshman Lindsey March would end up missing the cut by five pins.
On the men's single side, Nicholas Ferrara (Paul Smith's) defeated Tyler Couture (Vermont Tech) 226 – 146, while Harrison Heist (Vermont Tech) defeated Benjamin McInerney (Paul Smith's) 162 – 154. In the finals, Nick Ferrara defeated Harrison Heist in a low scoring 153 – 147 for the championship.
Junior Connor Bean missed the cut by only two pins after forcing Tyler Couture to strike twice and get six pins to get the last spot in the final four.
